Local Home Intelligence

Building intelligence that belongs inside the home.

Local Home Intelligence is the organization behind HELIX. We are building systems that remain private, understandable, maintainable, and accountable to the people who live with them.

Why the organization exists

Today’s smart home often becomes less understandable as it becomes more capable.

Residential technology is fragmented across devices, bridges, cloud accounts, proprietary apps, dashboards, automations, and unwritten setup knowledge. The result may look impressive while remaining brittle, difficult to support, and impossible for the household to explain.

Local Home Intelligence exists to build a better operational layer: one that understands the home’s real capabilities, keeps sensitive context local, uses AI within visible boundaries, and records enough evidence to explain what happened.

Our goal is not maximum automation. It is a home that behaves appropriately, stays maintainable, and keeps the household in control.
Operating principles

The standards guiding HELIX.

01

Local before cloud

Prefer local execution, local context, and local device APIs. Use external services deliberately and transparently.

02

Evidence before confidence

Do not convert a command dispatch or vendor response into a stronger success claim than the evidence supports.

03

Approval before autonomy

Intelligence may suggest and author; households and explicit policy govern material changes.

04

Maintainability before spectacle

Prioritize stable interfaces, isolation, recovery, and operational clarity over impressive but brittle demos.

05

Real capability before generic control

Model what each device can actually do rather than pretending every vendor behaves the same way.

06

Honest maturity

Keep working, partial, and planned capabilities visibly separated throughout the product and public story.

Clean-room development

A distinct platform, built from its own code.

HELIX learns from public standards, vendor documentation, and observed device behavior while maintaining an explicit clean-room boundary from Home Assistant, Hubitat, openHAB, and other community integration code.

  • Build integrations against vendor-owned APIs and protocol documentation.
  • Keep connector packages independently testable and isolated from the platform core.
  • Use upstream software as separate add-ons or bridges where appropriate rather than copying it into HELIX.
  • Respect licenses, trademarks, and third-party services.
  • Describe coexistence and migration honestly instead of presenting another platform as HELIX’s hidden foundation.
Long-term direction

From advanced homes to a more understandable residential platform.

HELIX begins with advanced households because that is where complexity, failure boundaries, and maintainability are easiest to see. The larger ambition is a home platform ordinary people can talk to, question, and trust.

Now

Private-alpha single-home platform

Validate device integration, local-first operation, HELIOS, CANVAS, migration, evidence, and household governance in real homes.

Next

A more accessible home appliance

Turn the proven platform into a guided, recoverable, and broadly compatible experience for mainstream households.
